What is Westkhoops?

We our a non-profit youth basketball club based in West Kelowna, dedicated to providing basketball programs and opportunities for children, youth, and teenagers in our local community. Westkhoops is our shorter brand name, nickname, or operating name used for our website and social media purposes. Our legal society name is, "West Kelowna Youth Basketball Association."

The West Kelowna Youth Basketball Association (our societies legal name) is the registered not-for-profit organization that oversees and manages Westkhoops (our operating name). It ensures the proper administration, development, and organization of basketball programs for the youth in West Kelowna.

What types of sports instruction do you offer?

We offer comprehensive basketball instruction to players of all skill levels. We focus on developing fundamental skills, improving basketball IQ, and enhancing overall performance on the court. Our instruction covers various aspects of the game, including shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork, defensive techniques, and conditioning.

The association offers both individual and group training sessions, allowing players to receive personalized attention and also learn in a team environment. Our coaches and trainers emphasize proper technique, efficient movement, and strategic decision-making to help players maximize their potential and become well-rounded athletes.

What age groups do you cater to?

We provide basketball prgrams and  instruction for children and youth ages 10 to 15 who are in grades 4 - 9. As intrest and demand increase the organization forsees the opportunity to grow and expand its programs to children and youth all ages ranging from kindergarden to high school. We have programs tailored to specific age brackets to ensure appropriate skill development and competition for each age group.

What is the duration of a typical sports instruction session?

Our sports instruction sessions, which include one-on-one training and team practices, usually span from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. For our summer camps, we divide them into two sessions: morning (AM) and afternoon (PM), with each session lasting between 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

Do you offer group or individual instruction?

We offer both group and individual basketball training instruction depending on the preference and need of the customer.

What sort of equipment do you provide during the instruction sessions?

Depening upon the program, league, or age group you registar for equipment may vary and what is provided will be communicated during the registration process. The association provides all necessary equipment for the sports instruction, however some programs will require althetes to bring their own basketball to participate. We provide practice cones and markers, scrimmage pinnies, baskets, scoreboards and game clocks, and timers. For specialized programs, training aids, such as, agility ladders, jump ropes, and other necessary equipment, will be provided as needed to support these programs.

Are there tryouts for Westkhoops programs?

Tryouts may be required for certain competitive teams within Westkhoops. However, not all programs have tryouts, especially those designed for recreational play or younger age groups. What is the duration of the basketball seasons?

The duration of the basketball seasons can vary depending on the program and league. Generally, seasons can span several months, including a combination of practices, games, and potential tournaments. Specific timelines and schedules will be communicated to participants prior to the start of each season. We run our Summer camp with various dates in July and August, our Fall Club League starting in September, and our Spring Club League starting in April.  

Where are the practices and games held?

Westkhoops organizes practices and games at various local facilities in West Kelowna, made up of private and public schools, and churches. The specific venues may differ depending on availability and age group. We strive to secure appropriate gymnasiums and courts within the community to ensure a conducive environment for basketball activities.

What is the coaching philosophy of Westkhoops?

Yes, Westkhoops encourages and appreciates the active participation of parents and community members as volunteers. What is your refund policy?

By acknowledging and accepting the Terms and Conditions, participants indicate their agreement to Westkhoops' refund policy. If a camp or program has not yet commenced and a request for a refund is made at least 10 days before the starting date, a full refund can be granted. Cancellations made nine days or less before the start date may be eligible for a 50% refund. Once a camp or program session has begun and the participant has attended or not attended, no refunds will be issued. The remaining 50% of the payment is non-refundable as it covers administration fees, the loss of holding a spot, and coaching staff expenses that were planned based on the number of registered participants. In the case of a medical absence or injury, refunds or credit will only be provided upon presentation of a physician's note. Refunds will not be given in the event of an "Act of God" or a crisis affecting the global, national, or local level.
